October Book Club: A Fine, Fine School by Sharon Creech

For the October Grades 1-2 Book Club, we read A Fine, Fine School by Sharon Creech.  Ella, Luke, Matthew, and Stella were present.

We answered questions using worksheets, using single words, sentences and pictures. We had a fun conversation about the book and all of the things that happened in the story. And ate lots of cookies! Again.

Some of the questions and responses:

-Q: Why hasn't Tillie's dog Beans learned to sit? A: Because she hasn't had time to train him because of going to school all the time."
-Q: Why didn't anyone tell Mr. Keene that he was giving them too much school? A: Because he's the principal. He was happy for them and they didn't want to hurt his feelings.
-Q: Why did Mr. Keene want to have more school? A: Because he liked school. He thought that the kids were good at it.

Some of the best quotes from this session:

-"If I went to this school, I would feel like I had just run a marathon!"
-"They were worried that they were going to get even more school!" (with a wide arm fling)
-"My arm is still tired from school so I can't write. Again."

Please join us on Wednesday, November 1 at 3:00 p.m. for the next Grades 1-2 Book Club. We will be reading My Father's Dragon by Ruth Stiles Gannett; illustrated by Ruth Chrisman Gannett.

"A young boy runs away from home to rescue an abused baby dragon held captive to serve as a free twenty-four hour, seven-days-a-week ferry for the lazy wild animals living on Wild Island."

Copies of the book will be available behind the Circulation Desk. Please be sure to register so that Miss Lisa knows how many snacks to buy!
